Bishop Milton R. Hawkins is a dynamic, inspirational, and Spirit-filled preacher/teacher who is also a visionary, author, producer, and mentor. His charismatic preaching style attracts people from all walks of life.
Bishop Hawkins served as Pastor of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Detroit, Michigan, for nearly seventeen years. He resigned due to the demise of his uncle, Presiding Bishop G.E. Patterson. He was appointed Pastor of Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ on July 20, 2007, by Bishop Jerry L. Maynard, Prelate of Tennessee Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.
Bishop Hawkins served as Adjutant-Apostolic to Presiding Bishop G. E. Patterson. Bishop Hawkins served as National Overseer Adjutant for the General Board. He currently serves as Superintendent of the J. O. Patterson Memorial District and Executive Administrative Assistant.
Bishop Hawkins earned his Bachelor of Science in Religion from Liberty University and achieved a Master of Art in Ethics and Leadership from Johnson University. He is the recipient of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Saint Thomas Christian University and numerous awards and commendations, such as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Presidential Award, Hobson-Goodlow Foundation/Phi Beta Sigma’s African American Male Image Award and a Special Commendation Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
He has served on numerous boards and community forums, including the Metropolitan Interfaith Association Board of Directors (2010-2016), Southern Christian Leadership Conference Board of Directors (2009-2011), and mentor and special programs speaker for the Shelby County School District. On September 26, 2009, the Founder’s dream was actualized by liquidating the multi-million-dollar mortgage five years ahead of schedule, saving the church over $1,000,000.00.
Bishop Hawkins and Temple of Deliverance have participated in several natural disaster relief efforts that have raised over $100,000 for the hungry in Haiti, Hurricane Sandy victims and tornado survivors in Mississippi, and earthquake victims in Nepal, as well as distributed 45,000 bottles of water for the Flint, Michigan Crisis. He also has distributed over $400,000.00 in scholarships to assist students in their educational pursuits.
Bishop Hawkins can be viewed weekly on CW 30 -WLMT each Sunday from 9:00-9:30 a.m. He released a CD entitled Temple of Deliverance Women’s Choir Live “In The Sanctuary,” a phenomenal worship experience. This CD features nationally renowned artists Karen Clark Sheard, Tamela Mann, and Lisa Page Brooks and was nominated for a Stellar Award.
He has been married to the lovely Evangelist Catherine Crawford Hawkins for 35 years. They are godly proud of their son, Joshua Nathanael Hawkins, who was featured in media venues for his outstanding academic accomplishments and a graduate of Harvard University.
